Downloading videos from Online Education Sites
In previous post, I discussed about online education sites,
the ones that I personally use and recommend for anyone willing to get any kind
of education (of course from the available massive education catalogue!).
While iTunes U allows download of videos on its own software
and the videos once downloaded are stored in your computer unless you delete
them, online education sites, which are web based purely and don’t have any
dedicated application / software like iTunes, have gone a step further by
allowing us to download all the video lectures completely for free without the
need for any sign up (apart from the sign up on the course website).
On Coursera, you are allowed to download the videos from the
course website directly in mp4 format, which is playable not only on your
computer but also on various other devices such as smartphones, tablets, televisions,
etc.
On the other hand, Udacity has came up with a step further
approach, it lets you get all the videos of a particular course in one go so
that you don’t have to click on single download links to download each video, which
may be time consuming specially if there are tons of videos in a particular
course.
The content of Udacity is licensed under Creative Commons
Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 License, which means:
You are free to share - to copy, distribute and
transmit the videos.
You must attribute the content to Udacity.
You may not use our content for commercial
purposes.
You may not alter, transform, or build upon our
content, apart from contributing to our wiki or translating it and submitting
the translations back to us via Udacity translation site.
Udacity allows its students to download videos in three
different ways the details of which can be accessed on Udacity Google Site
Its amazing how education is going fully online, and is
reaching those corners of the world where earlier students could have only
dreamed of such high quality and well delivered education.
People are getting employed through such online education
initiatives, this might actually call for a total reform of our education
system where conventionally one has to study for years in order to get a degree
/ certification and then start hunting for employment.
