BBM Voice - Its Officially released for all

For over a month now, I have been using BBM Voice through Blackberry Messenger 7.0 through Blackberry Beta Zone, not only that as the app was in beta stage, people all over the world were complaining about being unable to download the BBM 7.0 app as they were not from the USA, however, from somewhere came the solution to simply change your profile address and select USA as the country of residence, after that people were easily able to download and use BBM 7.0 even though they were not physically based in the USA.

Now BBM has made its BBM Voice public and is available to everyone through a free upgrade from Blackberry App World.

The voice chat ability is currently limited to those who are using at the least Blackberry OS 6.0 or anything newer (eg. Blackberry OS 7.0). Blackberry says it plans to launch BBM voice for its OS 5.0 users in near future, no exact dates are announced though.

BBM voice is expected to continue in Blackberry 10 smartphones which are due to be released in short time.

Apart from voice calls there are also few other new additions that are being packaged inside BBM7, which include:
  • BBM upgrade notifications - BBM will notify you when there are updates to download straight from within the app
  • BBID Synchronization - your BBM profile, Groups and Contacts are linked to your BlackBerry ID
  • 16 Additional emoticons - even more choice for those times when words just aren't enough.
BBM Voice works only over WiFi at the moment with no announcements of whether or not it will in future work over 3G or now 4G in UK and USA and various parts of Europe. May be Blackberry wants to retain stable relationships with telecom operators across the globe.

Here is a quick video featuring BBM Voice 7.0.
