Apple releases Apple USB SuperDrive and MacBook Air SuperDrive compatibility guide for Mac Computers

While use of CDs / DVDs is slowly and gradually diminishing, Apple's USB SuperDrives are gaining momentum in the market. The USB SuperDrives allow users to:

  • Writes DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL discs at up to 6x speed
  • Writes DVD-R and DVD+R discs at up to 8x speed
  • Writes DVD-RW discs at up to 6x speed and DVD+RW discs at up to 8x speed
  • Reads DVDs at up to 8x speed
  • Writes CD-R discs at up to 24x speed
  • Writes CD-RW discs at up to 16x speed
  • Reads CDs at up to 24x speed
It costs £65.00 from Apple UK Store and $79 if you are based in the USA or planning to purchase it from Apple Store USA.


Except the MacBook and MacPro, almost all other Macs are compatible with this SuperDrive and can be used through The USB ports on the Cinema Display (24-inch LED), LED Cinema Display (27-inch), and Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch) provided it is a compatible computer.
